Your life on your PC and mobile

You probably come across all sorts of information on the internet. Stuff you want to retain, but which eventually gets lost in the crowd. Maybe you saw a cool recipe, or something that you want to buy online, an interesting movie trailer or even something from any of the social networking sites. Anything you want to save for later, share, take notes on, email to someone or access from anywhere, you can do with Springpad. Use it on your PC, or get the free Springpad app for your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad or Android device. All your stuff will be synced and available whenever you need it.

Android task manager for better battery

Many Android phone users complain about battery life. However, don't blame the phone manufacturer just yet. Sometimes, apps don't shut down properly, run in the background and drain the battery. Just head over to the Android Market, download a free app called 'Advanced Task Killer Free' and set it to kill apps which are unnecessarily running. You can also manually kill the apps. You'll notice a definite improvement in battery life.
Ever taken a photograph in a crowded tourist spot, only to be bothered by the constant stream of people? Snapmania’s Tourist Remover is an online service can be quite useful. All you need to do is set your camera on a tripod and take multiple photos of the same scene. Make sure that each part of the background you want to appear in the final image is captured on at least two photos. The software then blends them into a composite photograph without any of the unwanted subjects in it. Sign up for Snapmania for free here.

Free and legal music you need

For Symbian phones, you can get the free Mobbler app (powered by Last.fm) and Android users can get the Last.fm app for free from the Android Market.

Smart Phone battery life

Kill background tasks for better battery life

Android phones can have poor battery life, largely because Android OS allows a lot of apps to run in the background. They hog memory, eat up battery life and in some cases, even keep pulling data from the internet. Install any of the free task-killer apps from the App Store- Advanced Task Killer Free and Task Panel. They will let you kill apps regularly, and can even be configured for an auto-kill. This benefits both the battery life and responsiveness of the device.

GPS need maps.

You can now get phones with GPS for around Rs 10k. But chances are that cheap GPS phones don't have maps and navigation software bundled with the device (some exceptions are the Nokia 5230 and Micromax W900). But worry not, if you're using a smartphone powered by Symbian, Windows Mobile, Android or iPhone OS, you can get the Sygic Mobile Maps applications with all-India maps from MapmyIndia for a one-time cost of Rs 2,490 (US$ 80 on the Apple App Store).
