The best way to determine what sound system you want to buy is to firstly analyze your needs. Do you listen primarily to music? Most music (even flac) is encoded in stereo (2.1) format which use only the front speakers. However, if you watch hi def movies and play games then 5.1 is the way to go with almost all movies and games supporting surround sound.

Free and legal music you need
Your Wi-Fi equipped smartphone can be your source for unlimited free music. All you have to do is get an internet radio application, connect to a Wi-Fi network and you're all set. For the iPhone or iPod touch, you can use the free Yahoo Music app (powered by CBS Radio). For Symbian phones, you can get the free Mobbler app (powered by Last.fm) and Android users can get the Last.fm app for free from the Android Market.
